Nani (means Beautiful in hawiian)
"Nani means beautiful, but she’s so much more!"
2008-06-27
Here’s what Tiffany says about Nani:
"Nani came from a breeder that posted her on Petfinder.com I got Nani and her papers for free. She is the more traditional chinese type with less wrinkles and smaller head. Nani has been nothing but a joy since I have gotten her. Nani is learning to be a protection dog at this time and doing very well but she still loves to be her goofy ol self and run around and sniff the flowers.
She got to meet the local fire department and they want a mini pei for a fire dog now!! the chief told them no.. Nani is one spoiled girl she has her fancy collar and gets anything and everything she wants, being an only child.
I have a friend thats scared of dogs and she will walk around and growl and talk to him and follow him just to make him jump. She loves messing with people. Oh and bugs better watch out with Nani on the watch. We are finally learning that when you smash the bug it stops playing and its not fun anymore. Then she feels bad and lays by it and stares at it like ok Im sorry please play. "

Freshwater Lionfish or Toadfish
"What fish looks like a stone, but eats like a toad?"
6/24/2008
Though this critter is called the Freshwater Lionfish, it is actually much more of a brackish water fish… or even saltwater!
No one is quite sure how this species received the common name of Freshwater Lionfish. They are not related to the saltwater Lionfish family and fortunately, are not venomous like the saltwater Lionfish. Probably someone with an overactive imagination couldn’t pronounce Batrachomoeus trispinosus and needed to call them something! In Australian common name for them is the Three-spine Frogfish…

Needle Nose Gar
"I know I’m called a ‘Barracuda’, but I’m actually a pretty nice guy!"
6/10/2008
The surface dwelling Needle Nose Gar resembles a twig floating in the water, and so sometimes is called a Stickfish!
This Needle Nose Gar, also called the Freshwater Garfish or Silver Needlefish, is not a gar at all but is actually one of the few freshwater members of the needlefish family. The common name of gar is used because there are similarities between this fish and the true gars. True gars are illegal to keep in many areas so this fish makes a good, legal substitute….

Arapaima
"This is the LARGEST freshwater fish in the WORLD!"
6/10/2008
The Arapaima is considered by many to be the largest strictly freshwater fish in the world!
The Arapaima, also known as Pirarucu, are beautiful, but they are a fish that can get up to 15 feet long. They are fast growers, powerful swimmers, and in the wild will jump out of the water to snatch small birds from low hanging tree branches. Because of its large size this is probably not really a good choice for a home pet, but is well suited for a public aquarium.
